NC Quick Pass is the N.C. Turnpike Authority’s all-electronic toll-collection program that offers drivers two ways to pay for tolls: a  prepaid transponder or the post-paid Bill by Mail program.

A prepaid transponder is the easiest and most cost-effective way to pay tolls. Using a prepaid transponder provides drivers a 35% discount on North Carolina tolls and allows you to pay tolls in up to 19 states.

Drivers who do not wish to open an account will pay through the post-paid Bill by Mail program. Under this program, the registered owner of the vehicle receives an invoice in the mail at the higher Bill by Mail rate.

A NC Quick Pass account automatically deducts tolls from a prepaid balance and provides drivers a 35% discount on tolls in North Carolina and works in up to 19 other states.

There are four ways for new customers to open an NC Quick Pass Account:

  1. Open a NC Quick Pass account online.
  2. Call 877-769-7277.
  3. Visit a customer service center.
  4. Download an application and send it in.

Once you have opened your account, you can visit ncquickpass.com to manage your account information, update or change your payment information, track usage, download statements, or make payments.

No, you only need to provide NC Quick Pass with information on vehicles that you will use with your transponder. However, any vehicles that are not registered to the account that travel on North Carolina toll roads are not eligible for NC Quick Pass toll discounts and will be charged the Bill by Mail toll rate.

Depending on your account type, the NC Quick Pass has the following balance minimums:

Account TypePrepaid Toll Balance Requirement
Personal account$20 for the first two transponders
$10 for each additional transponder (up to 10)
Business account$20 for each transponder
HOV only accountNot required (only valid in the I-77 Express Lanes)

  • I-toll due to transponder failure

The following table shows fees that could be applied to your personal or business account if appropriate:

Your credit card, debit card or ACH is charged automatically when your account drops below the threshold amount. The amount varies depending on whether the account is personal or business and the number of transponders associated with it.

NC Quick Pass evaluates the toll usage on the account after the first 30 days from the account opening date and adjusts the minimum balance. After the initial 30 days, NC Quick Pass automatically adjusts the minimum balance amount quarterly, based on average monthly toll usage.

The replenishment amount is the amount your debit or credit card is charged automatically when your account balance drops below the threshold amount.

The threshold amount is the required minimum balance of prepaid tolls on your account before a refill is triggered to keep your account from going negative.

Customers who use Google Chrome, Safari and Microsoft Edge will have the best user experience.
